Centra was commissioned to investigate and develop the first stages of a Hume Motorway Maintenance Management Model (HMMMM). The Model is to be used to plan future maintenance works within the Hume Motorway corridor. A report details the basis for the Model, how it was developed and describes its various elements to facilitate its ongoing future use by the Hume Motorway Office (HMO) as a tool for planning schedulable maintenance works within the Hume Motorway corridor.
A range of data investigations and analyses has been undertaken on the HMO Reflect data. The Reflect data includes records of accomplishments and defects covering an approximate 12 month period. Similar data was examined for bridges and bridge sized culverts for a period of nearly 5 years.
A number of statistical techniques were used to examine and interpret the data as well as data visualisation using GIS tools. A series of workshops were held with HMO staff and key stakeholders. At these workshops participants were presented the preliminary data interrogations and feedback was sought on data validity.
A GIS Model was used to spatially visualise both the accomplishment and defect data. It is a valuable tool to aid in the planning of schedulable maintenance. A part of the GIS Model is the GIS Cross Over location selection tool that easily allows for the investigation of suitable candidate sites for cross overs.
The development of an implementation plan of the Model was recommended as a next step.
At Barham/Koondrook the bridge was undergoing a major rehabilitation and there was the risk of damage to the local network and the bridge approaches. An assessment was made on the potential impacts of the proposed construction methodology and how to manage these impacts on the surrounding road network.
